Here it is the day before winter break and I haven't updated the speech blog since October! The past few months have been busy busy with many evaluations and meetings to attend. I promise you though that speech therapy has continued to be fun and educational!
Over the past few weeks we have started focusing on winter themed vocabulary, figurative language, social stories, and more! We have been decorating our speech room to make it cheerful for the upcoming winter months by creating synonym\antonym snowflakes, improved our understanding of words by listing at least 6 attributes, started making a chain of story facts\vocabulary\articulation words that I hope to be able to encompass my room in, and much much more!
We Practiced our good speech sounds in words, phrases and sentences while making an owl!
The air FINALLY feels crisp after a long hot and humid spell and here at Thomas Prince School we are starting our "Fall" themed units. Lots of fun is in store to help keep the kids motivated towards their goals! Starting next week we will be making owls and using them in various ways! Keep your eyes wide open for Owls to come home for practicing:
* regular\irregular past tense verbs
For the older kiddos, we will be working on increasing our use and knowledge of fall themed vocabulary! We will be working on some fall themed "madlibs" to promote our understanding of parts of speech, and writing spooky and thankful sentences\paragraphs using various sentence types and increased details.
Welcome to our FIRST full 5 day week here at TPS.
For those students that are being seen for the first time this year we will quickly make our "About Me Pockets" and speech goal star before jumping into our apple themes.
I have a few activities planned geared for lower elementary school students which include making an apple with stimulus words (sound specific, syntax specific, vocabulary), "apple picking" and a few stories to address location, plurals and vocabulary.
For upper elementary students we will still be "apple" themed, but the activities will be more involved (sequencing events, following directions, component parts to words).
Week of 9\4\17-9\8\17
This week we will be focusing on WHY each student comes to speech therapy. It's not uncommon for children to not truly understand WHY they come to see me :-) I really think it's important for each child I work with to know WHAT they are working on and WHY. This week we will be making "All About Me Pockets" to display on my bulletin board. These pockets will have each students name on them, what they enjoy to do outside of school, what they are working on in speech-therapy, what he\she wants to get better at, and how we are going to work on it together!
